7 Reasons Why Bright and Airy Spaces Are Ideal

There are many reasons why bright and airy interiors are ideal but, I’ll narrow it down to my top 7 reasons. Now, as a disclaimer, I’ll mention that I might be just a little bias on this topic because bright and airy interiors are my absolute favorite. However, maybe there’s a few reasons for it and I might not be the only one. If I had to express my personal style using just three words when it comes to decor, I’d say my style is bright, elegant, and gold.

Bright, Elegant, and Gold

Bright because I love spaces that are filled with lots of natural lighting and decorated with furniture resembling the neutral color palette. This allows you to incorporate and bring attention to a few vibrant colored objects in the room that are unique and different. Elegant because I can feel the energy in the room based on the attention to details and the aesthetic it portrays. Last but not least, gold because I believe that even the smallest bit always adds the perfect finishing touch in any space.

7 Reasons Why Bright and Airy Interiors Are Ideal

So, let’s get to the point, here are the 7 reasons why bright and airy interiors are ideal:

  1. The most beneficial aspect of bright and airy interiors is that they make rooms appear bigger in space. If you’re working with a small interior space, this is crucial to keep in mind. Lighter colors are known to create an illusion that the space is larger because of the way that light is absorbed and reflected. In general, lighter colors reflect more light and create an airy essence within the interior space. 2. Psychological studies have been able to provide evidence that color can shape our mood, like in a review called “Color and Psychological Functioning: A Review of Theoretical and Empirical Work” written by Andrew J. Elliot. Believe it or not, colors really do have the ability to make us feel a certain way. This is why choosing the ideal color palette for your interior space is essential. Using lighter colors that are neutral will help you create that ideal bright and airy interior. More importantly, lighter colors are not as daunting and striking on your eyes, allowing you to feel more at ease.
  3. In her article called “WATCH: These 5 Mood – Boosting Paint Colors Will Make Your Home a Happier Place,” Meghan Overdeep supports the claim that the color “white denotes purity and cleanliness and reflects more light than any other color… perfect for opening up small, dark spaces.” She also adds that colors like yellow and orange are great for initiating positivity and good energy within a space. So, if you’re feeling down, try adding some warmer tones in your room and lift your mood.
  4. Another benefit to creating bright and airy interiors is that they will force you to give extra attention to any unnecessary clutter. Hey, that’s a good thing! With lighter colors, you are constantly cautious of keeping things extra clean because even the smallest mess will be extremely visible. Not to mention, clutter leads to piled up dirt and an unpleasant environment to live in. Overtime, clutter will attract even more clutter, which will eventually lead to a household with uninhabitable conditions. On the other hand, bright and airy rooms call for order and spotlessness. There’s no way you’re hiding the dust in a corner of a room like that.
  5. Bright and airy interiors make for ideal living conditions because in such spaces the furniture arrangement needs to be well thought out. Bulky furniture that takes up too much room can overpower the interior and ruin the spacious aesthetic. Simplicity is key here and less is definitely more. For example, using large mirrors or furniture with glass countertops is a great way to add dimension and make use of minimal space while still fostering an interior that has plenty of open space.
  6. Another interesting factor to consider is that many newer built homes today are designed with an open floor plan in mind. These newer style homes are then often decorated by professionals to look very bright and airy. Why you ask? Well, it’s simple, the natural light gracefully bounces of the walls and the furniture of the each room and results in the most magnificent photos. Realtors love this aspect because such beautiful and dynamic pictures make the home selling process quicker. Everyone is happy.
  7. Lastly, bright and airy interiors are ideal for those trying to live a minimalistic lifestyle. When asked “What is Minimalism?” in his article, Joshua Becker writes that minimalism is “marked by clarity, purpose, and intentionality. At its core, minimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and removal of everything that distracts us from it.” Essentially, minimalism is a modern way of living that more and more people are starting to follow, especially the millennials according to an article published by Forbes called “Millennials Go Minimal: The Decluttering Lifestyle Trend That Is Taking Over” written by Deborah Weinswig.

Bright and Airy Equals Spacious

Summarizing my initial argument, bright and airy interiors are ideal because they create spacious rooms that scream sophistication and elegance. More times than not, simplicity is the real winner when it comes to ultimate design and aesthetic.
